PROJECT DETAILS

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

As part of its vision to raise up Generations of Transformational Christian Leaders, Africa Renewal Ministries (ARM) desires to utilize Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) – even where no internet access is available – to increase literacy, accelerate learning, and generate lasting opportunities in life.  This campaign will fundraise for a new ICT project ($100,000 goal) as well as connect more hearts to sponsorship opportunities (goal of 250).

INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES (ICT)

This project will install computers along with extensive off-line educational content in two pilot ARM primary schools and one secondary school as well as enhance technology capabilities at Africa Renewal University (AfRU) and the Renewal Healthcare Network (RHN).  The campaign goal is to raise $100,000.

Teachers, students, community members and health workers in these locations will all benefit.  Training will also be provided to enable teachers to utilize both the technology and the educational content.

Few children in Ugandan primary schools that have access to computers.  Tablet computers and educational games will accelerate learning and increase literacy among these young students at the pilot locations.  The computer lab deployment will be done in ways that support teacher curriculum and lesson plans.

In Ugandan secondary schools, there is high anxiety and pressure to perform well and attend university.  Government scholarship opportunities are minimal and many secondary schools lack student technology development.  In fact, many students have never used a computer.  Installing a computer lab with targeted educational materials at the pilot location will help students increase their chances for a university scholarship as well as improving the student's ability to compete for higher paying jobs.

At AfRU, an “incubator lab” will allow students to develop new applications and find ways to help address local community needs.  Additional infrastructure improvements will also help the university move towards their dream of providing online classes to students across Africa.

Doctors and nurses from RHN will be able to access large volumes of offline reference content for community training in areas such as disease prevention, sanitation & hygiene.

Gifts that exceed the amount needed for this project will be used for a similar project.

SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

This campaign also includes a goal to add 250 new sponsorships for children ($40/month) and university students ($200/month), thereby increasing hope for their future. The sponsorship component of this project is critical, and its importance cannot be overstated.

Child sponsorship ($40/month) is the ARM sponsorship program which helps children overcome the day-to-day realities of malnutrition, disease and poverty while impacting them with the message of the gospel and developing their character, competence, and calling across time.  Participating children receive help with school and uniform costs, access to basic medical care, biblical discipleship, and leadership training.  Children in school also receive a hot meal every day, giving them greater ability to learn.  All schools in Uganda require school tuition fees and many families are unable to adequately provide educational opportunities for their children.

The Next Generation Leadership Program (NGLP) ($200/month) is the ARM sponsorship program that provides full university scholarship to academically exceptional, unprivileged students while encouraging them to become service-oriented transformational Christian leaders.  The students who participate in the program receive help with housing assistance, food and upkeep assistance, leadership training, community service opportunities, short-term mission trips, mentoring and discipleship training, and networking opportunities.

RESOURCES

These are a few of the content and technology providers that we are currently examining for this project.  There are MANY more possible, but this is a start.
